Although not official, it is suspected that Amelia has pneumonia. It would explain the copious amounts of thick green secretions that keep blocking her tube and are hanging out in the back of her throat. They have her on several antibiotics that will kill whatever she has. Pneumonia can be bacterial, viral or from fungi. I am hoping it is bacterial as this is what can be killed by antibiotics. They are putting her back on the CPT therapy, mucamist in her vent to break up the secretions and the bagging suctioning method. Despite all of this she is still getting good gases and is being weaned on her ventilator.
As of this morning she is back on full feeds without any additional nutritional support through her TPN line. Her CO2 reading on her last blood gas was 57 (anything under 60 means she gets weaned) so she her rate was brought down from 40 to 37 BPM. She lost 10 grams in her weight last night, which is good because she is still carrying a bit of extra fluid in her body. As you can see from her pictures in her blue dress she looks a lot less puffy than she did last week, but still has a bit of edema.
I have been struggling to do a work project over the last 3 weeks and asked for an extension over the weekend (most of which was spent out of town at Sarah's wedding and visiting with Catherine, Thomas and Addie who stayed over last night before they fly out to Italy this morning). I am about 20 minutes from finishing up. I am going to reward myself by going up to the hospital early to visit with Amelia. I hope that she is doing well enough for me to hold her!

Dear Christina and Todd,
If I had not seen the micro-preemie dress Marian made for Amelia, I could be fooled into thinking she in her little dress was a normal sized infant dressed. Her color seems good, almost rosy. Blue does seem to flatter her.
She has progressed well; bless all those who continually pray for Amelia, Mommy and Daddy, her team of nurses, and phenomenal staff of doctors that provide her care. Only God knows the duration of the course she ultimately must follow in order to be well enough to come home. We all will stay the course with her, praying and celebrating with each good turn she takes. Many are the angels watching over us, watching over her.

Beautiful in blue! last couple days sounded scary, great to hear she's fighting back and that k'rooing must be so helpful for her progress and for your bonding. i just want to hold her and you guys too. love you, Jolie & Fam
