The Hump Day Blues

When not with Amelia, Xina has been preoccupied with her work and has neglected her blogging duties for the last 2 days. Let me, TAB, rectify that.

Her electrolytes are basically back to equilibrium - or good enough to not worry about. That gives them a chance to give her lasix, which had increased her urine output and hopefully helps dry out some of her lung gunk. She's lost a lot of fluid the last 2 days because of it, which is great. She looks much better, less puffy, and is not far from weighing what she should weigh. She has another 100grams to go before the new diet is a success, but she's been doing well again today. When she loses a little more weight, they will be able to go up on her feeds once more.

As far as breathing goes, her blood gases have not been real good through Tuesday and this morning, though they have not done anything with the ventilator in either direction. She has also been de-satting alot, (which basically means her blood isn't getting enough O2). They will take another blood gas test later this afternoon and then determine if she will need higher settings. Her chest x-ray is still ugly, and she constantly needs bagging and suctioning to clear the tube's pathway to her lungs.

She is now 36cm - 14 and a tad" - long... Her "dry" weight should be around 1.5Kg - 3lbs 5ozs - though she really weighed 1.7kg - 3lbs 12ozs - early last night. (so she needs to pee a little bit more).

Thyroid discussions and whether or not to treat her are still ongoing, but our current attending doctor is leaning towards treating her low thyroid output. That low output may be the cause of her having such extreme lung disease and her inability to get it under control. That decision will likely be made sometime today and her medications would start immediately. However, if she continues to have problems breathing today, they may not, in fact, start the treatment, because a side effect of the treatments is having a harder time breathing... it's the chicken and the egg... the catch 22... the rock and the hard place... the give them bailout money or let them declare bankruptcy...
