It is almost 6 months since Amelia was born. Whoo-wee. It is has been a long road so far. Still not sure when she will be able to come home.
She weighed in at 10 lbs. 8 oz. last night...a gain of 3 ounces. I get nervous when she gains so much weight at once. Her fiO2 has been in the mid 40s consistently. However, we now have a more cautious doctor on duty for the entire month of October so she will have to have fiO2 in the 30s before they will try her on cannula again.
OT worked with her yesterday, but she mostly sputtered and choked on the pedialyte. OT doesn't work with her on a consistent basis...it has been over a week since they last worked with her, so any skills she built up have probably been forgotten. It is pretty frustrating.

?!?!?! Why only once a week with OT??
She is on CPAP and if they are not careful she could aspirate. Our hospital usually does not try doing any kind of OT (nipple feeding) on kids until they are on cannula...so it is pretty unusual that they are trying at all. Sometimes she is sleeping and they think it is ineffective to wake her up and try, sometimes her breathing is too rapid, etc. etc. There are reasons, but to me it seems like an exercise in futility unless they can do it more regularly.
ah i see...and i totally understand your frustration. but SOMETHING has got to be better than NOTHING. the other thing that kills me is the change of the doctors...shouldn't they all talk and discuss and come to a concensus on a weening plan, instead of two TOTALLY different ideas on the CPAP?! You guys are so strong to go through all of this with such grace, and I'm sure Amelia can only benefit from your patience and determination to see her though. Always praying...
