A quick relief from the headgear and prongs during her albuterol treatment.
Amelia weighs 8 lbs. 2 oz. now. We had a nice visit yesterday. I held her for a short time and she slept most of the time. We had her on her tummy and down to 48% oxygen when I left at shift change last night. She is up to 66% this morning, but her nurse just put her on her tummy on the boppy and is going to work on weaning her down.
We are going to meet with PT/OT this afternoon. They have put together a program for her, so we can begin working with her to build strength in her muscles. She has low muscle tone (most preemies born her age do because they missed out on the resistance training that occurs by being in the confines of the womb) and she also does not have some natural reflexes...her head lolls back when you pull her up by her arms (she should try to keep her head pulled up) and she doesn't try to step when you hold her up and put her feet on the bed. In fact she doesn't try to put any pressure on her feet, they are just like limp noodles.
Working with her will be so much easier once she is on nasal cannula, but because we don't know how long it is going to take for her to get there, we need to start working with her now so she doesn't get any more developmentally delayed.
Low muscle tone is something she will always have, but strength training will help her use the muscles she has to maximum benefit.
Our little buritto was cold on Wednesday.
I was playing sheriff and caught Amelia holding up a bank like Belle Starr. She gave up, but not without a fight.
