And Now for Her Next Number...

Amelia's pressure was turned down to 7 yesterday around noon and her FIO2 was around 52% most of the day and night. Her breathing rate seemed a little high, but not unexpected since she is settling into her new number.

Dr. Khan said he wants to turn her pressure down every third day as long as her fiO2 remains reasonable (reasonable is undefined at the moment). He is also determined to get her off of lasix. She seems to be doing alright with her reduced dosage. He wants to wean her on the lasix and her next pressure setting simultaneously. This makes me nervous, but I am leaving it in the hands of the professionals and God.

In order for her to handle the lasix weaning they have reduced her volume to 60mLs (2 oz.) per feeding (they were supposed to increase the volume recently to compensate for her new weight), but they are increasing the calories from 27 to 30. By doing this, they are giving her less fluid to process, helping her tolerate the weaning of her diuretic.

Amelia's weight remains unchanged for a fourth day. They like to see babies gain an ounce a day, but she jumped 4 ounces in one day, so she is still on track. Hopefully tonight she will show a weight gain.

Aunt Marian and Uncle Ben have generously offered to come to Houston this weekend to visit the baby. I have arranged for them to have access as if they were her parents, so they can come and go as they please. This is going to be a stress reliever for me and Todd to know that she is being loved and taken care of by her Godparents while we are not available. I felt guilty letting them do this, but I am overwhelmed by their kindness to do this for us so that we can just chill for the weekend.
