Post Surgery Post

Amelia is doing great. She was put back on cannula today around 10:00am. She is on 4 LPM and 32% oxygen. I think the plan may be to wean her down by half a liter tomorrow.

She really wants to get out of her bed. When she woke up and saw that I was here she cried because she wanted me to hold her. Her nurse let me hold her but said she had to be in one position and not to move her around. The only position that she was satisfied in was in an upright sitting position (because she could see and hear everything going on) and the nurse thought that would be bad since she just had an operation in the abdominal area. She started getting fussy so we had to put her back in her bed.

She has a lot of secretions that she built up when she was on the CPAP and she seems to be having trouble spitting them up or swallowing them. Because of this she has gotten fussy and agitated and then started crying and then her already swollen airway gets more enflamed and then her sats began to drop. They had to give her a small dose of morphine to calm her down and then she was given a treatment of epinephrin to reduce the swelling in her airway. Since then she has calmed down and she is resting comfortably in her bed gazing up at her mobile.

And she won't go to sleep! She has been rubbing her eyes for a good half hour. I just remembered that she likes it when I tuck the blanket over her with her arms to her sides, so she is swaddled in a nd can't move them. She has also taken to licking fabric as a soothing mechanism when she falls alseep, so I put the blanket near her mouth so she can lick it as she falls aleep. Now that I have done this it has taken her about 5 minutes to fall asleep.

She is eating formula again. They had put her on pedialyte for a day to make sure her digestion was ok and now they are gradually resuming her back to the volume she had before.

Hopefully she will be back to her normal lively self here in the the next couple days and we can wean and eventually ease on down the road and never look back.
