The cardiologist did not think a cardio-cath was necessary for Amelia since he did not see anything in the echocardiogram to indicate her pulmonary hypertension is caused by anything other than her BPD. So they started Amelia on medicine last night. The dr says that the effects of the medicine should be seen in only a few days, even though it's a maintenance drug she will continue to have until the PH is gone. That being said, they will want to keep Amelia in the hospital for 7-10 days to make sure the medicine is affecting her properly without any adverse effects.
Her O2 pressure is back up to 3LPM today, and they had to put her back on the highflow cannula. Since part of the treatment for her hypertension is increased O2, that's okay, and they've changed her sat requirements to stay higher than before. But it's a little more than they had hoped she'd have to go to. She's back to pre-Gtube surgery requirements on the O2 - higher actually, since she's also on 100% enriched instead of 50-60% as she was a couple of weeks ago. The doctor thinks once the medicine starts to work on the hypertension, she'll recover and it will all come down. For her to come home, she'll need to be on at least 1 1/2 LPMs or lower.
So it's looking like Christmas may actually be out for her homecoming. It's hard to say right now.

So sorry about the delay, but you know they are doing what's best. Waiting must be so hard.
Well, if not Christmas, then perhaps she can be the Baby New Year for 2010!!! Marie Grip
You both have been asked so many times to wait on this journey....it makes us all sad for you. But this too will pass, and Amelia is going home soon. When things seem so tough, look down at that beautiful little face that's loves you so much and take great joy in that sweet, sweet smile ! We will continue to pray for sweet Amelia, but more for strength and happiness for her mom and dad.

I had to catch up on my reading tonight. I didn't realize it had been so long since I had checked in! Time really does fly! And it will fly for you too. 10 days could put her home for Christmas. I'll be praying hard for that, if it's in His plan. Well, 10 days will give you time to get ready and time to finish you're Christmas shopping! Have you put up your tree yet? As usuual, I will keep the Hail Marys coming that you will have Amelia home for Christmas, safe and sound. We love and miss you! Merry Christmas! Erica
