Eating It Up

Dairy Queen Ice Cream Cone for the Princess.

Fudgesicle

Apple Slices

Waffles at Aunt Marian's house.

She is still mainly tube fed, but she we have held steady at the amount we have given her for about two years and she is getting taller and gaining weight. She drinks more fluid orally and asks for water to drink. She attended a food camp for 7 weeks with other kids and she is definitely willing to try a lot of different foods. We are still working on volume. We give her lots of opportunities to eat. She gets offered something in the morning before school, gets a snack at school, gets offered lunch, afternoon snack, and dinner. She usually takes a bite of something at every opportunity.

She seems to like lettuce, cheese, popcorn, chicken nuggets, apple slices, pepperoni slices, ice cream and gold fish crackers the most right now.  She can say all the names for these foods, except pepperoni and nuggets. The coffee in the picture above is mine, not hers!

Double fisting some hot dog buns! She can say BREAD.

Nuggets, cheese and some Hi-C juice to drink. She can say JUICE.

Who's that kid with the Oreo cookie? She likes to pull them apart, eat the cream out of the middle and give me the cookies. She can say COOKIE.

We went to a Vietnamese noodle house and she ate an entire rice paper spring roll filled with lettuce, bean sprouts, rice noodles, and three large shrimp in it. She also enjoyed dipping the large spoon into the peanut sauce and eating it.

Boy, she seems to be going like gang busters! It will still take time, but I know once she started awakening her taste buds, it would be a done deal. No turning back now. I pray that the g-tube will be a thing of the past.....soon.

PS Then she can teach her daddy the joys of eating a variety of fruits, vegetables and maybe goad him into trying something new to the both of them. ;)
