Amelia has been pretty chronically congested and has had a lot of phlegm, pretty much since we brought her home from the hospital. It is always there, sometimes better and sometimes worse. Usually it was just a drippy nose, but the last couple days it has been a really bad, dark circles underher eyes, snuffly nose and rattly breathing at night. All upper respiratory. She had a horrible night last night (as did Todd and I).
Luckily we had a pulmonology appointment this morning and the doctor prescribed her Flonase, an antibiotic, and zyrtec. I was actually surprised he prescribed her anything because we have been complaining about this at nearly every visit and we have just been told to give her OTC allergy meds and saline, saline, saline --- oh and we used the suction machine. Hopefully once this is under control, her appetite will pick back up. She really kind of regressed on her eating solid food over the last 6 weeks and I really think a lot of it has to do with all the extra phlegm she was trying to manage.
In other positive pulmonary news, her lungs sound totally clear, so none of the congestion has traveled down to her lungs. Also, the doctor went over her sleep study results with me. Turns out she was not having any significant apnea events, she was getting rid of Carbon Dioxide (proper gasses exchanging), the only thing was she was not maintaining her satts. She dipped down to 85% for about 5 minutes. He wants to give her a chance to clear up her nasal allergy problems and then when we see him early November he wants to wean her off of night time oxygen, with no additional sleep study required. Her oxygen satts can be monitored with the pulsoximeter.
This past weekend I bought her a booster seat for her to eat at the table with us. I want her to really sit at the table with us when we eat. Also it will be nice to put her at the kitchen table so she can start learning how to hold a crayon and marker and do some sitting down activities. The high chair takes up a lot of room so it will be a relief to move it out of here and gain some maneuverability in the kitchen dining area. I also got her one of those retro radio flyer scooters so she can practice her pre-bike riding skills. She likes to sit on it, but hasn't figured out how to move forward yet.
She has been doing well with her AFOs and walks just as well, but with her ankles, knees and hips in better alignment.
All in all the week is starting off well!

Zoom, ZOOM, ZOOM! Amelia will tackle that Radio Flyer with no difficulty. It will take a little maneuvering on her part, but she will get it. I am so proud of her.
Especially liked the picture of her sampling the toilet tissue. She looked like the cat that swallowed the canary!
And how wonderful that she gets around and into everything. Just shows her natural curiosity for everything around her. If she keeps up at this rate she will catch up and speed by others her age in no time flat! GOOOOOOOOOO Amelia!!!
