I Got a Tahoe, Baby!

Closing your eyes makes it even more fun!

We hope you had a good Memorial Day weekend. We went up to Fredericksburg and had a very nice relaxing weekend. We rode around in the mule, Amelia played in the sprinkler, picked wild flowers, we sat around watched the deer, pushed her in the swing, took nature walks, looked at the horses, visited with the neighbors, and ate homemade ice cream.

He loves me. He loves me not!

We left around 1:00 on Monday to get home and didn't arrive until 1:00 on Tuesday! We decided to cut through Austin to come home, which is a route we never take. We got through Austin and through a small town called Elgin when the car lost acceleration and we had to pull over on the side of the rode. The car was still on, but was making a weird sound like someone had the base turned up on the radio. We turned off the car with the intention of restarting and it wouldn't.

It was in the 90s that day and were a panicked, sweaty mess. We tried to find the number for road side assistance. Back in March we bought a Nissan Murano and opted for the extended warranty which comes with roadside assistance, but we couldn't find the number in the car anywhere and had to call the Nissan dealership who put us through. We learned 20 minutes into the call that it was Acura road side assistance, but by that time we were not going to hang up and try again. Poor Amelia's face was beet red. We had the dog in the car. Everybody had to use the bathroom.

It took 45 minutes for the tow truck to arrive and and then another 35 minutes to drive us back to Austin for the nearest Nissan dealership. We put Amelia's car seat in the cab of the truck and she was riding up high, taking in the view. A baby in a tow truck is a sight to behold.

I was already trying to figure out what we were going to do, because I was convinced it was going to take days for them to repair whatever was wrong with the car.  I also didn't want to spend any more time in the lobby of a car dealership with a dog and a three year old than I had to.

Luckily I was able to text my friend Elizabeth and she gave me the number of her folks that live in town --- and as it turned out live about 5 minutes away from the dealership. I asked if he had enough room for all of us and he said "I Got a Tahoe, Baby!" Mr. Price came on his white horse and picked me, the dog and Amelia up and let us go chill at their house while Todd took care of business.

While at the house we visited with their dogs, went to the neighbor's house to pet the bunnies and look at their herb garden. I was also given a glass of wine which I was needing pretty bad by that time!

Word from the dealership was that it was the alternator, which had totally drained the battery and they had to get it from Dallas and because it was Memorial Day there were no rental car places open. So the Prices graciously let us stay at their home and cooked us dinner. It was nice to visit with old friends, even if under less than ideal circumstances.

Goofing around at the Prices' house. She looks like a little leprechaun with her hat and croquet mallet walking stick.

Scene of the breakdown. It was by a huge field, but it wasn't quite in the middle of nowhere.
The next day Mr. Price dropped us off at the dealership, we picked up a rental car and we finally made it home, some 24 hours after we started. However, the car was going to be done on Wednesday in Austin and now we were back in Houston. We decided to drive up Friday afternoon, pick up the car and go ahead and stay in Fredericksburg for another weekend. Fine by Amelia and fine by me!
